Innovative Cable TV May Experience Intermittent Interference Due To Sun Outages

St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix, USVI- October 3, 2015Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas, St. John

and St. Croix may experience service interruptions in the coming weeks. These foreseeable brief

interruptions can last up to several minutes a day and are caused by sun outages.

Sun outages, which typically occur twice a year are due to interference from solar radiation and cause

interruption in satellite signals. When the sun is lined up directly with a satellite’s communication, the

sun’s radiation blocks the satellite’s signal. This year, it is expected that this phenomenon will occur

between October 4, 2015 and October 13, 2015 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

depending upon the position of the sun.

Matt Muckelbauer, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer stated, “During sun outages,

Innovative Cable TV customers may experience interference in picture quality and sound. Degradation

of the signal may last for several minutes depending on the antenna size and available link margin. It is

not unusual for the effect to go unnoticed.”
